5 Reasons to List Your Pipe Pile Instead of Selling at an Auction

Pipe pile is a variety of steel pipe that can be welded, seamless, or spiral-welded. It’s utilized in the construction of deep foundations for big structures and buildings, helping to transfer large and heavy loads and give them secure footing. Pipe piles are driven using machinery like vibratory hammers deep into the ground. Their deep underground positioning as well as their point bearing and skin friction allow them to resist load pressure.Pipe pile comes in handy for the following applications (and more): marine construction foundations, column foundations, bridge foundations, highway foundations, offshore construction, and oilfield construction. Pipe pile is tough, durable, and highly adaptable, which makes it a hot commodity on the new and used markets. Steel prices are currently quite high, and there are numerous buyers looking to save money by purchasing used and surplus pipe pile on the used market.

List Your Pipe Pile for These 5 Reasons

As we mentioned, there are tons of interested buyers looking to save some money by purchasing pipe pile on the used market. You may be tempted to sell your pipe pile at auction, but there are some compelling reasons to skip the auction and list it on a marketplace instead. Here are five of them:

1. You’ll Get to Hold onto Your Selling Rights

When you sell at an auction, you don’t get to advertise your pipe pile anywhere else. This limits its reach to potential buyers. If, on the other hand, you list your pipe pile on a marketplace like Eiffel Trading that allows you to retain your selling rights, you’re free to list and advertise your pipe on as many other channels as you desire. This allows your used pipe pile to get as much exposure as possible!

2. You Pick the Price

At unreserved auctions, the highest bidder wins, no matter how minimal their bid. This means you could end up selling your used pipe pile for way less than it’s worth. Don’t risk this if you don’t have to! You should always be paid fairly for your materials if possible.

3. There Are No Time Limitations

Auctions are most often subject to time constraints, which translates to less time for you to find an interested buyer. Sometimes this means you'll be forced to accept a lowball offer because of time constraints. When you list on a marketplace like Eiffel Trading, your listing will remain on the site until you find a buyer, for however long it takes. And you won’t have to compromise on price to try to sell faster.

4. You Won’t Have to Pay Fees

Some auctions require you pay a fee to sell individual items, while others require you pay a membership fee on a regular basis to participate in auctions. Either way, you end up paying more than if you list your pipe pile on a marketplace that doesn’t charge you to do so.

5. You’ll Be Matched Up with the Right Buyers

Auction bidders may not even be looking for pipe pile and instead simply be looking for a good deal. When you list on a high-quality marketplace, buyers specifically in need of used pipe pile are targeted. You benefit from the robust marketing efforts and targeted approach of the marketplace, which means you’ll find buyers who are interested in paying a fair price for what they’re seeking. So, why auction off your pipe pile when listing it comes with far greater benefits? List your pipe pile with Eiffel Trading today, and get the most from your sale!

In addition to used pipe pile, Eiffel Trading’s online marketplace also boasts used steel sheet pile, used steel plates, used concrete barrier wall, used access trestle, and much more. All of our listings are constantly being updated, but if you don’t see what you’re looking for, create a wanted listing.Ready to sell your used heavy equipment or construction material? How to Buy and Sell Pipe Pile with Eiffel Trading

Looking to buy or sell pipe pile? Consider exploring the options on Eiffel Trading’s online marketplace. We have an excellent track record helping both buyers and sellers of popular types of pipe pile, including welded, seamless, and spiral-welded. Keep reading to find out more about the buying and selling process with Eiffel Trading!

How to Buy Pipe Pile with Eiffel Trading

Here’s how the process of buying pipe pile with Eiffel Trading works in six steps:

1. Ask for additional information.

Once you’ve narrowed down your possible selections, you can ask your account manager any questions that you may have about the steel, ask for MTR paperwork, additional photos, etc.

2. Get a freight rate.

Our in-house freight partners are ready to assist you with a freight rate to your desired location!

3. You make an offer.

When you find the pipe pile that’s right for your project, you click the green “Make Offer” button on the listing. From there, your account manager will present the offer to the seller. The seller will either accept or counteroffer.

4. Schedule or waive an inspection.

You’ll be given the option to either schedule an in-person inspection or waive the opportunity to inspect. It’s your call! If the pipe pile appears to be in good condition and you want to speed the process up, you may decide waiving the inspection is what you want. On the other hand, you may want the peace of mind the inspection offers. We always advise buyers to set up an inspection in order to ensure the material is right for your project.

5. Enter the contract to buy.

Once all parties have agreed upon the price and you have inspected the material, you’ll enter a contract to purchase the pipe pile and our team will coordinate the logistics of loading transportation.

How to Sell Pipe Pile with Eiffel Trading

If you decide to sell your pipe pile with Eiffel Trading, the process is just as simple and hassle-free as buying, and we help you through every step. Below you’ll find the five major components of selling steel pipe with us:

1. Pick a price.

Do some market research and assess the going rate for the type of pipe pile you’re trying to sell. Then pick a price around the going rate that you feel is fair. If you want to sell quickly, you may want to price a bit lower than average. On the other hand, don’t be afraid to ask an Eiffel Trading account manager what your used pipe pile is worth. We can typically give you guidance based on recent sales and listings!

2. Create a listing.

This is an easy and straightforward process when you list your pipe pile with Eiffel Trading. Plus, you’ll get to keep your selling rights, which means you can list on other channels too. And you can remove your listing at any time.

3. Make your listing stand out.

It’s best to provide potential buyers with as much information as you can. Make sure you note the condition the pipe pile is in, size and thickness of the pipe pile, etc. on the listing. And be sure to take some good pictures in decent lighting to include with your listing. All these simple things can make a big difference! Another difference maker is the paperwork. It may take you some digging, but it is very beneficial to the sale to provide original paperwork or any MTR test paperwork that you have on hand!

4. Consider offers.

If you receive offers that are lower than you expect, you may decide to suggest a counteroffer. A buyer may either accept or reject your counteroffer.

5. Accept an offer.

Once a buyer makes an offer that is to your liking, you’ll accept it, enter into an agreement, and finalize the transaction. Once the transaction is finalized, Eiffel Trading will work with the buyer to figure out the logistics of transporting your pipe pile. Alternatively, you can work out transportation logistics with the buyer yourself. Keep in mind that it’s the buyer’s responsibility to handle and pay for shipping/transportation.As you can probably tell, Eiffel Trading is an excellent choice whether you’re buying or selling pipe pile. We like to keep things as simple as possible for you and are always ready to help you get the most out of your buying or selling experience.

Eiffel 101: Inspection Tips for Crane Mats

Crane mats protect the ground from damage by heavy equipment, protect equipment from becoming mired in mud, and provide a stable platform for the machinery to function. Before purchasing a used crane mat, it’s important to evaluate the mat’s condition to determine if it’s a good fit for your project.

1. Inspect the Crane Mat’s Condition

Crane mats are graded based on the type of hardwood used, coloration, quality of bolts, and overall standard of construction. The crane mat grading standards are set by the National Hardwood Lumber Association and range on a letter scale from A to C. In order to earn their rating, crane mats must be graded by a licensed grader. The crane mat grading system enables you to narrow down your search when purchasing used crane mats, and best grade will depend on your project’s budget and requirements.• Grade A is the highest rating for used crane mats. Grade A mats must be less than nine months old and contain minimal wear with no timber chunks missing. These mats are in excellent condition.• Grade B is the middle rating for used crane mats. Timber edges of Grade B crane mats are still square and timbers are sound and free of rot. Grade B mats may have a few broken or missing bolts, stains, or other signs of use. Grade B crane mats are slightly more worn than Grade A mats, but they’re still in good condition.• Grade C crane mats may have damaged bolts or sections that have been rebuilt. These mats are not expected to last as long as Grade B or Grade A mats, which is why they’re best suited for single, short-term projects. Sometimes, Grade C crane mats are not suitable for any use.

2. Ask How Long the Crane Mat Has Been in Use

All crane mats have a limited lifespan ranging from about 18 months up to several years. The longer a crane mat has been in use, the less service life it has left – especially if used in a harsh environment, like a swamp. Before purchasing a used crane mat, it’s important to ask how long the crane mat has been in use, especially since a crane mat’s age is not always discernible by visual inspection alone. A crane mat’s age is particularly important if you plan to use to crane mat over an extended period of time, or for multiple projects. Once you know how long a crane mat has been in use, you’ll be able to more accurately evaluate if the mat is right for your purposes.

3. Inspect the Type of Wood the Crane Mat is Made From

Crane mats can be made from many types of wood including Douglas Fir, oak, and mixed hardwood. Additionally, the ends of crane mats can be painted with wax lumber. Some buyers prefer certain wood types over others. If this applies to you, remember to inspect the type of wood the crane mat is made from.

4. Inspect the Crane Mat for Rot

Crane mats are made of wood, and as such, they can rot. A rotted crane mat is no longer serviceable. Before purchasing a used crane mat, it’s important to inspect the mat for any signs of rot.

5. What to Do If You Cannot Inspect the Crane Mats in Person

Sometimes, it’s not always possible to inspect a used crane mat in person before purchase. Ideally, you will be able to coordinate with a local liaison who can inspect the mats for you. If this is not an option, ask the seller to take photos and videos of the used crane mats from as many angles as possible. Photos should be clear and taken in good quality daylight to give you an accurate picture of the crane mats.

4 Ways to Earn More from Selling Your Crane Access Trestle Online

A crane access trestle system is a temporary bridge made of steel used to enable marine construction. Because trestle systems are not meant to be permanent, they’re commonly uninstalled and resold after a project is complete. If you have a trestle system that’s out of service, there are many benefits to selling the equipment rather than holding onto it indefinitely: you can make money, save storage space, take advantage of the high demand for steel, and help other contractors who are looking to purchase used equipment. However, there are a few important steps every seller should take to ensure they’re making the most money for their used crane access trestle. Here, we outline four tips for effectively selling your trestle system online.

1. Avoid selling your crane access trestle on a global goods marketplace.

Global powerhouse websites may seem convenient, but because they sell on such a large scale, the quality of their inventory is generally lower. This drives down the price of goods and encourages sellers to list their crane access trestles for the cheapest price possible. Global goods marketplaces also charge sellers to list their products (which cuts into your profits) and can take days to push listings live, especially if you don’t pay extra for a membership through their platform. For these reasons, selling through a global goods marketplace is not a good way to earn the most for your crane access trestle. When you list your crane access trestle on Eiffel Trading, you’ll have the opportunity to target contractors who are looking for a trestle with your exact specifications. Our enhanced search tools and niche market ensures every listing gets the attention it deserves, which in turn drives up the value. Due to the average quality of products sold on our platform, sellers can expect to earn a fair price for their goods.

2. Pay attention to site quality before you list your crane access trestle for sale online.

As you’re researching sites to list your crane access trestle, you’ll find some sites are easy to navigate while others are confusing or out of date. If it’s difficult for you to find your way around a website, it will be difficult for buyers to discover your listing, since site quality can reflect things like how fast your listing goes up and how well your materials are marketed to potential customers. Furthermore, if a site is out of date, it will seem less trustworthy to a potential buyers, which can deter them from making a purchase. Don’t waste your time listing your crane access trestle on low quality websites. Rather, it’s best to stick with sites that are presentable, up to date, trustworthy, and easy to navigate.

3. Price your crane access trestle according to the market.

Choosing an appropriate price for your used crane access trestle is an important part of the selling process. Here are some tips to help you determine a price that will move your trestle system most effectively:
  • Estimate the trestle’s value based on its condition. To determine the overall condition of your used crane access trestle, consider the trestle’s age, visual signs of wear, damage, and the overall standard of construction. Trestles in better condition can be sold for a higher price, while trestles with more wear should be discounted.
  • Look at listings of other crane access trestles in a similar physical condition and region to yours and note their asking prices.
  • Consider the manufacturer, model, and any extra features that differentiate your access trestle from the competition.
  • Consider the trestle’s prior applications. Different types of water can cause more wear to access trestles than others and should be reflected in the price.
  • Put yourself in the buyer’s shoes; what is the maximum price you’d pay for your used access trestle?
  • Still need help? When you choose to list on Eiffel Trading, our staff is always available to help you determine a competitive listing price.

4. Avoid auction sites to keep your rights and sell to the most interested buyer.

When your crane access trestle goes up for auction, you’re giving up the opportunity to advertise your trestle to a wider market. In unreserved auctions, this drastically lowers your odds of landing a buyer who’s willing to pay a fair price. In reserved auctions, your access trestle could be up for auction for much longer than you’d expected or intended, simply because the pool of buyers is much smaller and will therefore take longer to find a match. In both situations, you’ll find yourself with your hands tied when you could have instead kept your selling rights by listing your access trestle for sale directly to the consumer. In addition to selling rights, when you sell your trestle at auction, it’s unlikely it will go to the buyer who needs that specific trestle for their project (and is therefore willing to pay more). Rather, your trestle will be sold to an auction attendee looking to get a good deal, who may later flip the trestle for a profit themselves. At Eiffel Trading, we optimize our website to target the right buyers looking for crane access trestles just like yours and in a nearby region. This enables you to earn more for your trestle system, since interested buyers will see the value in what you’re selling.

4 Options for Selling Your Used Crane Access Trestle

If you have a trestle system that’s out of service, there are many benefits to selling the equipment rather than holding onto it indefinitely: you can make money, save storage space, take advantage of the high demand for steel, and help other contractors who are looking to purchase used equipment. However, when it comes to actually selling the trestle—and making a profit—you may find yourself stumped. Here, we outline four options for selling your used crane access trestle system.

1. Sell your crane access trestle on a global trade platform.

Mega-sites allow you to sell material like crane access trestles through a global online marketplace. Overall, these sites are easy to use, though they charge sellers to list their products (which cuts into your profits) and can take days to push listings live, especially if you don’t pay extra for a membership through their platform.Cons: Global competition lowers prices and listing costs a fee, meaning you will make less money overall for your crane access trestle.

2. Sell your crane access trestle at auction.

Selling your crane access trestle at auction is a quick way to get rid of the equipment and materials without having to interact directly with the buyer. Rather, the auction house takes care of the logistics and acts as an intermediary between buyer and seller. The downside is that when you sell your crane access trestle at auction, you don’t get to name your price or keep your selling rights, you’ll have to pay a selling fee, and you won’t get the benefit of selling your trestle to the most interested buyer who needs that specific trestle for their project (and is therefore eager and willing to pay more). Rather, your trestle will be sold to an auction attendee looking to get a good deal, who may later flip the trestle for a profit themselves.Cons: You don’t get to name your price or keep your selling rights, and you’ll have to pay a selling fee.

3. Sell your crane access trestle to an online broker.

When selling to an online broker, you’ll contact the seller, and they will give you a quote for how much they’re willing to pay for your trestle. In most cases, brokers offer you under market value for your equipment, since they’ll need to turn around and resell the trestle for a profit.Cons: Will pay less than market value for equipment.

4. List your crane access trestle on an online marketplace for contractors.

An online marketplace for contractors such as Eiffel Trading allows you to list your crane access trestle for a fair price and then puts your listing in front of buyers who are interested in your exact item. This type of marketplace allows you to set your price, sell for a profit, and retain your selling rights. It will also help you attract potential industry buyers who are shopping for other materials and stumble upon yours in the process. This can mean a quicker sale and faster profit. When you sell a crane access trestle on Eiffel Trading, you’ll never pay a listing or commission fee—you only have to price and list the access trestle and load it onto the buyer's trucks. Listing your equipment on our online platform requires minimal effort, and your crane access trestle will not leave your possession until the sale is complete.Pros: You set your price, retain your selling rights, no listing fees, no commission fees, easy to use, a team of real people standing by to help guide you through the process.

What is a Poseidon Sectional Barge?

A Poseidon sectional barge is a type of truckable or modular barge. Sectional barges, in general, are made up of sections or modules that connect to form platforms of desired dimensions. Once assembled and on the water, sectional barges, including Poseidon barges, are used to support workers and machinery during dredging, bridge construction, and other, related marine projects. Poseidon barges are made of tough, Grade A-36 steel, which means they’re strong, durable, and long-lasting. And they have embossed decks that are skid-resistant, corrosion-resistant, and rust-resistant. The modules that make up Poseidon barges are compact, stackable, and designed for efficient and simple transport on 18-wheelers.Poseidon barges are made to support small cranes like carry deck cranes as well as the biggest, heftiest cranes, such as the Manitowoc MLC650. They can also support excavators, hoppers, and dredge boxes. How much weight a Poseidon barge can support depends on the specifications of the model. In addition to serving as platforms for dredging and construction, Poseidon barges may be used to transport materials, equipment, and other project necessities across waterways. In comparison to other popular sectional barge options, such as Flexifloat barges, Poseidon barges have a special appeal for some buyers due to their “hairpin” locking system/connections. Poseidon modules connect to each other using securing pins, and their hairpin locking system allows them to be compatible with other types of sectional barges. This means they can connect to Shugart and Flexifloat barges for added adaptability. As mentioned, Poseidon barges are rated for different weights based on model type. Individual models also come with unique features that make them suited for individual applications. Below you’ll find information about popular Poseidon sectional barge models.

Should I Sell My Flexifloat Sectional Barges?

Flexifloat barges are among the most popular kinds of sectional barges. These barges are produced by the well-reputed Robishaw Engineering and branded under their Flexifloat line. Along with Poseidon sectional barges, Flexifloat barges are top sellers on both the new and used market. The most distinguishing characteristic of Flexifloat barges in comparison to other types of sectional barges is their unique interlocking system, which does not require the use of securing pins. A Flexifloat barge is self-contained in this way, and its modules easily connect with the help of an upper and lower connection point at each section. An attached vertical bar, which is a part of the interlocking system, secures the connection between modules.Flexifloat barges are highly sought after, and selling your Flexifloat barge on the used market can certainly be a great option and lucrative endeavor!

Types of Flexifloat Barges

There are three different series of Flexifloat barges that sell quite well on the used sectional barge market. Below is some information about these Flexifloat barge options in terms of factors like their load capacities.

Series H-50

This type of Flexifloat barge is a particularly hot item on the used market. Its operational load capacity is up to 100 tons, and it’s the most compact and portable type of Flexifloat. Projects that require a sectional barge to be relocated several times over their course benefit from this option. Additionally, a Series H-50 barge may come in handy alongside another, larger sectional barge to provide some extra support.

Series S-50

Able to handle a bit more weight than the H-50 series, the S-50 series of Flexifloat barges can support up to 300 tons in operational load. They’re great for applications like oil well servicing, bridge construction, dam construction, equipment and material transport, etc.

Series S-70

For applications necessitating large cranes, ribs, and excavators, the S-70 series is your best bet. This series boasts a static load capacity of 2,000 tons and is an excellent choice for heavy duty needs. All available Flexifloat barges are designed with stackable modules that can easily and simply be transported by traditional 18-wheelers. They’re also compatible with Flexifloat spud and spudwell attachments as well as Flexifloat winch systems.

How Is Pipe Pile Used in Bridge Building?

Steel pipe of various styles may be used as pipe pile. When employed in construction, pipe pile transfers structural loads of significant heft into deep layers of soil or rock. This is particularly advantageous when top layers of the ground are weak or unstable. To be used in this capacity, pipe pile is driven into the ground with the help of a pile driver, such as a vibratory hammer. The size of pipe required, load bearing capability, and amount of pipe piles for the job will vary depending on project specifications.Popular types of pipe pile include straight seam, electric resistance weld (ERW), double submerged arc weld (DSAW), and spiral weld. Types of pipe pile are classified by their methods of manufacturing and unique specifications and capabilities that result from their manufacturing processes. Pipe pile may be plugged open ended, unplugged open ended, or utilize a bottom plate, depending on the application and desired outcome of its use.For construction applications, steel pipe pile is often used in bridge construction, building construction, foundation construction, marine and dock construction, trestle construction, falsework construction, and in the construction of temporary structures.

Pipe Pile’s Role in Bridge Building

Pipe pile helps support bridge structures, offering stability, strength, dependability, and safety. It is primarily used to construct the foundation for bridges. When used in this way, it is driven into the ground. After being driven into the ground and secured in place, it is frequently filled with concrete to boost its overall strength and supportive qualities. The type of pipe pile utilized for a particular bridge construction project will depend on factors like the bridge structure it will need to support, ground conditions, water conditions in the area, and bedrock properties. One particular benefit of using steel pipe pile in bridge building is that most available pipe pile options are produced to have anti-corrosive properties. This makes it an attractive choice in marine areas where the pile may be exposed to water and humidity. As mentioned, pipe pile is also a popular choice for the foundations of docks, where its anti-corrosiveness also proves to be of use.Of the types of steel pipe pile, straight seam pipe pile is seen as the strongest choice for bridge building and other, similar applications. Straight seam pipe pile provides a significant amount of equal bending strength from every direction, which helps prevent buckling. With minimized risk of buckling, it can adequately support the heaviest of structures.Steel pipe pile is an economical choice for the construction of bridge foundations. Pipe pile of all kinds is affordable to produce and easily accessible. If you’re looking for steel pipe pile for your next bridge construction project, you may even want to consider buying used or surplus steel pipe pile on the used market. There’s a growing amount of used pipe pile available for affordable prices. With steel prices going up, purchasing used pipe is an even more economical decision than purchasing new. Plus, it’s also the more sustainable option!
